THIS WEEK!
Mystery Creek Field Days – 15 to 18 June at Mystery Creek Events Centre, Hamilton
Bringing town and country together in the advancement of agriculture, the busy atmosphere of Fieldays over 15-18 June compares to nowhere else. With over 126,000 people through the gate last year, people from all walks of life can come together and celebrate the industry that New Zealand has been built on. Once again we’ll be there both with new & exciting products that we’ve been working on this year, as well as the firm favourites (socks & throws!). We also have a couple of baby alpacas that we’ll have on our stand along with their mums for you to check out.
Look forward to seeing you there!

Mystery Creek Field Days – 11 to 14 June 2014 at Mystery Creek Events Centre, Hamilton
What a great show! With 900 exhibitors and attracting over 120,000 visitors to the show, the Field Days are an annual farming and agriculture trade show that is the largest in New Zealand and the Southern Hemisphere & we were proud to be part of it.
We had animals on show at our site, a wide range of our alpaca product including homeware, women’s wear, men’s wear and yarn. Popular items this year were the new colours in our popular throw range, a big hit were the new alpaca fur teddies in the wide range of colours. For the knitters there was the new range of our own yarn from our animals, it was great to see another ‘home grown’ item be so well received.
As always socks were number one on the list, with many happy customers return to replenish or add to their winter woollies.

Another great day on the farm, it was fantastic to have so many people come & visit on National Alpaca Day. There was lots of interested people wanting to know more about these wonderful animals & plenty of families wanting their children to pat or feed them, walk them or just get up close to them.
Awaawaroa Alpaca has taken part in this day every year for the last 6 years and would like to thank everyone that came along, we enjoyed hosting you all & look forward to seeing you all again next year!
Coca-Cola Easter Show – 17 – 21 April 2014
Well a record breaking crowd attended the Coca-Cola Easter Show this year and it was great to see! More than 130,000 people visited the 5 day show, this included almost 38,000 people on Friday – the biggest crowd in the show’s 171-year history! We were certainly rushed off our feet and happy to see so many people attend the show.
We were delighted to win a Reserve Champion Award, which was in recognition of our stand display and interaction with the public. We’ll see what we can ‘sharpen’ for next year & see if we can’t take the winning spot!
This was the first time we have had an Alpaca Fashion Show at the Easter Show & given the response looks like it may be on the schedule again for next year. It was held around lunchtime on the Friday & it had a great turn-out, with people keen to see a the alpaca wear on display. With a mix of woman’s wear, men’s wear and children’s wear we had everyone covered.
Steam & Vintage Country Festival at Glenbook Vintage Railway – March 2013
What a great event to be part of! The Steam & Vintage Country Festival asked us if we would be part of the weekend activities, we thought it looked like fun & it’s only held every 4 years so we said yes!
The event ran across the weekend of Saturday 23rd & Sunday 24th March, the weather was great, with the continued long summer we’ve been having, so added to the day of trains, Clydesdale horses, vintage tractors and other machinery propelled by steam or that was used to reap, sow, bind or thresh.
As usual the alpacas were a great hit, with many parents able to take photos of their children cuddling the alpacas we had on show.
We were pleased to be part of a well run event that ran like the pistons on a steam train. Can’t wait until the next one!
Mystery Creek Field Days – June 2012
Good weather, new stock, along with well behaved animals ended up being a winning combination for a very successful Mystery Creek Field Days for us. With over 128,000 people attending the world’s fifth largest rural sector tradeshow, numbers were up on last year which was good to see & we really felt a positive vibe out there.
The ongoing interest in yarn & fibre showed us that the revival of hand knitting was still strong & for those that either don’t have the time or skills were all very keen on the hand knitted products we had available.
People appreciated our New Zealand made products, with visitors both local & international commenting on the quality & range & saying what we had on offer was top notch!
Our Prime Minister, John Key, also made an appearance, taking one alpaca for a short walk after having a lead placed in his hand by Bruce (rather cheekily!). Bruce suggested that John was looking at the “next growth industry in NZ”, which may have led to the photo here turning up as the top picture from the day on John Key’s Face Book page later.
