Our Story

Our alpaca adventure
started in 2001...

when we first discovered these unique and adorable animals. We took the first step after one of our many visits to the Hamilton Mystery Creek Field Days. We started with a pregnant female, Brooke and her cria, who we called Babble (for babbling brook) and a wether named Eddie.

At this point we were living on an acre in an inner suburb of east Auckland

Not the sort of place you’d expect to see an alpaca grazing in the backyard, but I couldn’t wait & it was more than enough space for them. However, we knew it would only be a matter of time before we would want to add to our alpaca family & would have to move to somewhere more suitable.

An old orchard farm in Clevedon was where we headed to next for a couple of years. We started to have success with breeding and purchasing the odd alpaca here and there to add to colour variety, fibre and blend of other characteristics.

We have now been on our farm in Pukekohe since 2004 and have grown our herd year after year to over 70 alpacas. We have committed ourselves to breeding animals with good genetics, but blending different bloodlines and colours with both huacaya and suri alpacas.

Organic and natural is best

We have committed to utilising organic principles on our pastures, no sprays or chemical fertilisers of any type are used. And we mainly work with naturopathic or homeopathic remedies with our alpacas for their ongoing health and any illnesses or accidents that may occur.

We believe this approach has benefits for our health, the welfare of animals and the state of our environment.

Why alpacas

If you spend a few minutes browsing through our site it will be easy to see what attracted us to alpacas. They are clean, intelligent, peaceful animals that are relatively easy to handle and safe around children.

They also offer a lifestyle with benefits and opportunities for the whole family. They have certainly delighted our five grandchildren, through their stages of growing up, whether it’s been sitting in the paddock with them just observing, helping with feed out when they visit or ‘helping’ during shearing.

Raising alpacas is a labour of love, but relaxation, fun, and a potential source of income are the rewards of keeping these delightful animals.

Please look around our site to find out more about us, more about alpacas or visit our online showroom to see what can be made with their wonderful fibre.
